Insight Blog: Laptop programmes for students, an overview through Europe and beyond: “The country that just launched (at the end of July 2008) the biggest ever laptop campaign for students is Portugal, with the Magellan initiative (”Iniciativa Magalhães"). The Magellan scheme will provide 500,000 laptops to primary school pupils starting from the beginning of this school year, thanks to a partnership with Intel. A similar programme is likely to be launched also in Venezuela. In Greece since last year a pool of experts has been working on the behalf of the Ministry of Education for setting up a pilot programme in order to provide students with laptops.

Another interesting initiative is “Be mobile – Learn anywhere”, launched in Switzerland in December 2006, in order to provide cut-price laptops and appropriate software for pupils and teachers in upper secondary schools. Three companies were involved: ACER, Apple and Dell"

Och jag bara undrar – var finns det svenska utbilningsdepartementet, den svenska utbildningsminstern och den svenska regeringen på en skala…..? Frågan kan/borde kanske också ställas till svenska utbildningspolitiker i alla partier och på alla nivåer – varför inte till Thomas Johansson, ordförande i utbildningsnämnden i Södertälje.
