Nalin Pekgul har fullständigt fel
“Socialdemokraterna måste slopa kravet på republik”: “Monarkin kan emellertid även vara det yttersta försvaret för demokratin. Det har vi sett exempel på i historien. 1983 kom en vändpunkt då jag öppet började vågade stå för åsikten att kungahuset är en bra institution trots att jag är socialdemokrat. Det var när en vansinnig major försökte gå in i det spanska parlamentet och göra militärkupp. De demokratiskt valda ledarna hukade skräckslaget i sina stolar medan kung Juan Carlos ensam stod upp och försvarade den spanska demokratin. Tillsammans med det som jag tidigare hade läst om kung Olavs kamp mot nazisterna gav denna händelse mig en enorm respekt för monarkin.”

Den här debattartikeln författad av Malin Pekgul är ett av de sämsta exempel jag någonsin sett på det som annars kan sägas vara en styrka hos oss socialdemokrater – pragmatismen. Den är fylld med fullständigt principlösa argument som dessutom oftast är helt absurda som t.ex.:
Det nya förslaget om att man ska ha full insyn i kungens ekonomi visar tyvärr på en brist på erkänsla för monarkin. Förslaget är helt fel tänkt. Vi har ett kungahus och då måste vi ge dem förtroendet att sköta sig själva.
Det blir värre:
Kungahuset kan bli ett verktyg för de demokratiska värderingarna.
Kul dock att fru Pekgul sticker ut hakan i en fråga som denna. Det är lite absurt att socialdemokratin kan ta på sig ansvaret för att driva t.ex. en energipolitik som går emot vad en majoritet av befolkningen tycker men samtidigt vara för feg för att driva opinion i en fråga där man sedan “urminnes tider” har ett tydligt ställningstagande:
Politiska uppdrag och tjänster inom offentlig förvaltning måste stå öppna på lika villkor för alla medborgare. Som en konsekvens av dessa generella krav på samhällsförvaltningen vill socialdemokratin också verka för att monarkins arvsprincip avskaffas och ersätts av en republik, där statschefen direkt eller indirekt väljs av folket.
Fru Pekgul tycks anse att “Många intellektuella i Sverige saknar förståelse för monarkins popularitet. Men så har de kanske inte heller den där riktigt nära kontakten med folk.”. Jag kan intyga att utan anspråk på att tillhöra “de intelektuella” och med hyfsad kontakt med folk är det ändå mycket svårt att förstå kungahusets “popularietet” och de märkliga argumenten som fru Pekgul framför.
